The city of Prato is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and industrial strength, particularly in the textile industry, which has significantly influenced the city's development. However, like many cities, Prato faces challenges related to economic restructuring, social integration, and environmental sustainability. The municipal government is implementing an urban renewal strategy aimed at revitalizing communities through "participatory" and "sustainable" actions. This includes developing high-density green areas, known as "urban jungles," and integrating them into the urban landscape. These interventions, such as creating corridors, green infrastructure, and extensive urban green space measures, are tools for climate mitigation, biodiversity protection, and enhancement. The strategy also aims to combine social needs with the demand for activity spaces, thereby improving public health and overall well-being.

Green is the true protagonist of the city's vision and is integral to every intervention of this research project. The project aims to create an ecological network within the community area to improve the quality of the urban landscape, thermal comfort of open spaces, urban microclimate, and urban stormwater management. Designed to develop a community with high urban resilience, establishing effective connections between existing areas and newly planned public and private spaces.

During the research process, special attention was given to the redesign of public spaces within the community and the transformation of unused areas into active green centers, approach aims to address the sustainable use of urban territories. By connecting "green parking lots" with functional green spaces, the initiative contributes to fine-tuning the urban environment to achieve better outcomes: reducing greenhouse gases, capturing fine dust, providing shade, mitigating microclimates, enhancing the livability of open spaces, and promoting public health and well-being. Furthermore, by encouraging active participation in planning and co-design from residents, opening up management to the community, inclusivity and a sense of belonging are increased. This fosters broad sustainable development and social cohesion in urban renewal.
