The continuous urban expansion and rapid pace of urbanization present significant challenges but also bring opportunities for modern urban planning. The research area is along the Arno River, includes a complex structure partially overlapping with industrial zones, surrounded by railways, highways, and an airport. The project addresses issues such as public health, green space planning, air pollution, noise pollution, and the neglect of certain areas in the landscape.

The research project focuses on the theme of healthy cities, aiming to create a multidimensional urban community centered around public spaces and the needs of citizens. It seeks to improve the physical and environmental conditions of community public spaces, enhancing their inclusivity, proximity, accessibility, sustainability, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and provides health and well-being-related analysis and design methods for community functions and public spaces.

Community Public Green Spaces Issue: By identifying and describing the varied urban structures/community compositions shaped by historical, social, cultural, and urban planning factors, the uneven distribution and accessibility of public green spaces within cities have become an issue of environmental justice. Using i-Tree Canopy to calculate coverage rates of different surface types (roads, buildings, water, and vegetation) quantifies exposure to green spaces. Furthermore, based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, identifying and categorizing urban public green spaces and summarizing vegetation type coverage information to assess and study their green space quality (vegetation condition, public facilities, maintenance level, congestion, safety, and tranquility). This approach involves evidence-based planning and comprehensive survey methods to address the ongoing management issues of these green spaces. This aims to comprehensively evaluate the potential benefits of various green infrastructures for inclusive and healthy communities, formulate planning strategies, design scenarios, and consider optimizing the quality of existing urban public green spaces to potentially enhance health benefits.

Sustainability in Transportation Issues: Aimed at reducing air pollution and road vehicle noise, efforts focus on optimizing environmentally friendly sidewalks and developing a robust, safe network of bicycle lanes. This initiative influences community members' short-distance travel strategies to promote non-motorized transport, creating greener and more equitable transportation options, thereby reducing energy consumption and mitigate environmental impacts associated with transportation.

Noise Pollution Issues: Significant noise from highways, railways, and especially aircraft disrupts daily life and activities for residents in nearby communities, reducing quality of life and causing stress. Increasing evidence suggests certain health risks are associated with this stress. Research aims to adopt a 'balanced approach' using land use planning and the design of public space soundscapes to mitigate or compensate for the impact of transportation facilities, particularly aircraft noise, on the health and well-being of community residents.
